ARK: Survival Evolved Best PvP Settings

This guide was created to showcase video settings and launch options commonly used by competitive ARK: Survival Evolved players. This goal of this guide is to level the playing field for ARK players who haven’t already heard about these settings and tweaks. Low video settings increase performance and reduce visual clutter making enemies easier to spot.

Let's get started!

User Settings

Motion Blur, Camera Shake and Camera View Bob should always be off. You can leave View Distance to Epic and just use the console command r.viewdistancescale 0 to toggle it to low andr.viewdistancescale 1 to toggle back.

Launch options

NOTE: When launching ARK start it in the default mode “Play ARK: Survival Evolved” otherwise it will override your launch options.Right click on ARK: Survival Evolved in your game library, go to Properties>Set launch options - input the following:
-USEALLAVAILABLECORES -sm4 -d3d10 -nomansky -lowmemory[/size]
USEALLAVAILABLECORES: forces multi-core usage (increasing performance)
sm4: forces DX10
d3d10: forces DirectX 10 -. DirectX 11 the same as sm4, forces DX10 which removes a lot of shadows example)
nomansky: forces the game to start up in ‘No Sky Effects’ by default (increasing performance)
lowmemory: forces the game to start up in ‘Low Memory 4GB mode” by default (increasing performance)
 -Forced ARK to use Shader Model 4 instead of Shader Model 5 -It forces the game to use Shader Model 4 instead of the usual Shader Model 5. The game looks and feels almost the same but you get much better performance. There is more a matte look to the game but it is not bad at all. Best performance boost out of all of these options. Engine.ini TweaksEngine.ini and GameUserSettings.ini are located in the Steam\steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor directory - Save a copy of these files somewhere in case you need to revert.

First I want to thank all of our players for their commitment and support to our server and community. Without your support none of this would have been possible - thank you!

It’s been a wild ride since our server started in Sep 2015 but I regret to announce that this will be the final season and we'll be shutting down the ARK-PvP Server at the end of next month on Feb 29th, 2016.

It's truly been pleasure to get to know all of you - We're absolutely staying around but shifting focus into hosting tournaments with SOTF, Naughty or Nice, and custom events created by our development team (with our custom anti-cheat).

Stay tuned for more info and updates on that in the very near future!

We truly appreciate your understanding and support as we make this transition and open a new chapter for GG ARK-PvP!

The trading post being built at 50,50 using the arena kit, we've received some great suggestions and ideas for uses for the post - some of those are:

  • A trade floor that is a neutral zone for tribes to do some form of trading
  • An arena space for events such as PVP, jumping puzzles, etc
  • A billboard area for bounty's, trades, alliances, enemies, declarations of war etc
  • Free to use crafting station for new tribes
We're still working out a clean system and mod solution to facilitate trading, we'd like to hear your thoughts! Also feel free to drop by and check out the trading post anytime at coordinates 50,50!

Raiding option - Surrendering Posted by: Sly - 01-15-2016, 11:07 PM - Forum: General - Replies (6)

Declaring a raid only benefits larger tribes. Instead, a surrender option would be more appropriate. It gives the raiding tribe the satisfaction of having won, and the raided tribe a chance to regroup.

There are a couple of ways this could be done, with details being adjusted.

-- A public declaration of surrendering in global chat.
-- Changing a tribe name to include the word surrender to indicate that tribe is under protection.
-- A removal of surrender protection if a tribe violates the rules of surrender

The time of protection, and type of protection should be discussed.

It could be 24 hours -> a week against a specific tribe, or it could be global protection. It would need to be arbitrated by an admin.

Care would also need to be taken that it was not used to prevent a raid, IE, giving up before the raid even happened. Raiding could be defined as a period from the start of the raid, like 4 hours, or 24 hours, or whatever. However, I still don't think you should have to declare a raid.

Hey everyone, I thought a guide on this was very necessary to provide an even playing field for everyone on the server. This farming technique is used by pretty much every medium-large tribe and is necessary for everyone to use if they want to compete.

What is it? It's basically using a Quetzal with a platform saddle that has a ramp built on it to carry around an Ankylo, Mammoth, Doedicurus, etc, to farm materials infinitely. I will say beforehand that it is pushing the mechanics of the game to their limit and maybe be considered an exploit, however it is a legit farming method and not against the rules to use. It CAN be done solo, but it is far more effecient to use 2 players (1 to ride the Quetzal and 1 to ride the Ankylo/Mammoth/Doed).

Here is how it's done, step by step.

Building the Quetzal:

First you'll need a Quetzal and equip it with a Platform Saddle.

Add 2 foundations to it. Thatch, wood, stone, metal and glass metal will all work.

Attach 2 ceilings long to the foundation so that they extend to the side of the Quetzal.

Attach 5 ramps to the ceilings as you see here. You may have to fly the Quetzal above the ground slightly to place the 5th one.

Now that the ramp is complete, you need something to farm with.


How to farm:

Ride the Ankylo up the ramp.

Fly the Quetzal toward a location that is abundant with the resource that you want to gather (in this case we're using an Ankylo so we're gathering metal).

Fly the Quetzal so that when the Ankylo swings it's tail, it can hit the resource. You can continue to fly around gathering resources more or less infinitely.

If you're curious about why this works, it's because the Ankylo will continue to gather resources regardless of how much weight it has. Since the Quetzal is the one moving the Ankylo around, being encumbered is not an issue. The weight, since the Ankylo is on the the ramp and not in it's talons, doesn't affect the Quetzal either.

Also, if the Ankylo falls off, it's not that big a deal as long as it doesn't fall in deep water. You can get it back on the ramp by walking/flying up to the Ankylo and slowly moving the ramp into it, which will clip it back onto the ramp!


How to unload the resources that you gather:

Have a tribemate stand in front of the Ankylo you used and drop all of the resources from the Ankylo's inventory (you can do this quickly by spamming the "O" key on the items in it's inventory).

Have your tribemate pick up all of the resources. Since they were dropped items, there is no limit to how much he can hold.

Knock him out drag him to the location that you want to unload the resources. You can drag anyone regardless of how encumbered they are. Once they have unloaded their resources, you're done!


So this is how all of the biggest tribes mass resource farm! Hopefully everything made sense and will be useful to a few tribes. Thanks for reading!

Hi, I'm Vance from Extraordinary Gentleman. Some people may or may not have a great opinion about me or my tribe, but I encourage you to read my post without any bias towards myself. I'm thinking primarily in the benefit of this great server. DR has put in a lot of his time and effort into this server and he's hands down the best admin for an unofficial server that I've seen, not just in ARK, but in any game that has unofficial servers. I only want to see his server succeed.

So we need to think about why people come to this server to begin with. PvP. The server was previously called ARK-PVP and that name alone is what interested me in the server. I wanted a good unofficial server that was centered around pvp and also had a decent sized community. However, starting as a solo player, I built up a decent base over the course of about 2 weeks and I got completely wiped. I didn't quit but I decided to join up with another solo player and with him, we rebuilt. After rebuilding we got wiped and shortly after, the server wiped. If it weren't for the wipe, I likely would have quit.

So as someone who has experienced being a small time player and also a big time player (being in Extraordinary Gentleman) what drives players away from a server, usually, is being wiped by another tribe repeatedly. They don't mind rebuilding (although some players are more sensitive than others), they mind getting wiped repeatedly. Also, offline raids are cheesy and boring. When people feel like the weeks of work that they put in disappeared without even getting the opportunity of defending their stuff, they quit. Also, it very likely wasn't fun for anyone involved. Raiding someone while they are offline can only be a negative experience for both parties. The raiding party is either frustrated or bored and the offline "defending" party is frustrated when they log in.

So what do I propose?

I propose a system of "declaration" and a raiding cooldown.

A declaration system (which honestly may require a custom mod to avoid "cry wolf" issues) involves a 3 step process.

  1. The attacking tribe must declare to the people they want to raid with a notice that they will be raided.
  2. The defending tribe is given a window of "x" hours to respond and from the moment they respond, the attacking tribe has "x" hours to attack.
  3. After the raid has taken place, the defending tribe is given 24 hours to rebuild from ALL tribes and 72 hours to rebuild from the tribe that just attacked them. Also, during this 72 hours, the defending tribe can declare an attack on anyone that they want, but if they do, their "grace period" is void.
I'm sure there are ways to abuse this (such as an ally tribe declaring and leaving another tribe with a 1 day grace period every 3 days, but that should be easy to see by an admin and taken care of.

This wouldn't effect open world PvP at all. You're still allowed to kill anyone you see at any time. Even at their base. You just cant break into their base and take their stuff unless you declare a raid. This fixes offline raiding to an extent (the defending party knows the time frame that they can be raided) and it also fixes constant harassment. I think it would allow for a much cleaner and fun raiding environment for everyone.

Also, I encourage everyone to help newcomers out in any way possible. Teach them things. Offer advice. We need to maintain an active and constant server population for everyone to have fun.

A simple mod. It doesn't add or remove anything from the game, it just visually changes the HUD to something much more aesthetically pleasing to look at.

Better Beacons

Better beacons makes it so it's actually worth getting supply crates. Currently you have a 98% chance of getting absolute garbage from top tier crates (and worse than absolute garbage from lower tier creates) rather than anything of importance. This doesn't make them all drop phat loot, but instead balances drops by removing some worthless loot and rewarding players with a little higher chance of finding good gear and worthwhile items for taking the time go across the map for a supply crate.

recently i was kicked out of eg, all my stuff was not returned, then after some complaint it was, sadly my base that i hand built before joining was not, i need help getting that or the materials back. also, after hiding in my old base and members of eg were told not to kil my animals because i have 0 ways of edefence since i have no base, they decided to ask a virtuaious member to attempt and kill all of my pets since they were un guarded. really shady underhand tactics , i need your assistance dr and they looted all the gear and stuffi h ad. all of my personal items.. and i couldn't defend since i didn't own the base. really fucking unfair. its like grief ing lvl 1s with no house

Mutiny tribe, at around 6:50-7:05PM PST, broke into my enclosed raft by having one person flying an arg and dropping another person through my ceiling.  They then knocked me unconscious and stole everything I had and put me into a cage.
